DVD drives for Wii and Gamecube Backups/Burn
GameCube and Wii games may be ripped using a DVD-ROM and either Rawdump 2.0, or FriiDump. Only DVD-ROM drives have been reported to work for ripping. Any DVD Writer can be used to burn. The DVD-ROM drives that rip are all manufactured by LG Electronics or H-L Data Storage, but are sold under various brand names (see the list below). The specific ripper drive models that I have confirmed myself are GDR-8082N, 8161B, 8162B, 8163B, 8164B.
Other drives reported to work (Before you buy, make sure itâ€™s the correct firmware);
1. Laptop slim drive GDR-8082N works. I personally confirmed firmware 0007 works in PIO mode only, Drive REV. A0. Adapters to use these in desktops are about $5 shipped on eBay. Search for JAE adapter. If your 8082N does not work, you can try flashing it with IBMâ€™s 0L03 firmware here. If it will not flash, see this thread for help forcing a flash.
2. SATA LG GDR-H10N by user culius. Itâ€™s important to note that according to IrishTR [color=#FF0000]*[/color]only firmware version 0B10 works. You can download 0B10 here, but nobody has found a flash utility that will work yet. H10N firmwares that DO NOT work: 0D04, D70D

3. GDR-8160B by Wiible here, however other 8160s have not worked, so there are likely different firmware versions or Wiible is wrong. Firmwares reported not working: 0009, 0012, 0018. 8161B firmware is here.

Gamecube mode (sometimes called GC mode) is a special state which the Wii enters when running a gamecube game. While in this mode, the Wii can't use any extra hardware (aka hardware that the Gamecube didn't have). This is the main reason why there aren't any GameCube USB loaders. Gamecube mode is launched in 3 simple steps.
In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to setup USB Loader GX to work with Nintendont to launch your GameCube games. It acts as a front end for Nintendon.
Parental Control - Locks USB Loader GX. Disc - Loads a game via disc. Pressing any game will allow you to play the game by pressing “Start”. There are also other buttons: Icon - “Install” a game, i.e. Loading it from disc and dumping it. Gears - Settings for USB Loader GX. SD card - Remount the SD card. Homebrew - Load homebrew apps.

A Wii or vWii with the latest version of USB Loader GX and certain cIOS (such as d2x-cios) installed can rip Wii game discs.The Wii system may also be able to rip GameCube game discs as long as DIOS MIOS is installed. Wiis sold after late 2011 and Wii Us lack the GameCube controller and memory card ports, and can make no use of DIOS MIOS. USB Loader GX is a homebrew application. It is used for launching homebrew, backup Wii games and back up game cube games on the Nintendo Wii or WiiU vWii mode. Certain old models of PC DVD drives are able to rip game discs with Rawdump or Friidump.

It's generally easier and faster to rip game discs via a Wii console, if you have one:

CleanRip can rip a game disc to an SD card or an external USB storage device. It requires your Wii or vWii system to have the Homebrew Channel.

GameCube Discs

No GameCube titles take up more than 1.36 GiB (Gibibyte, or 1024³ bytes). It's generally a good idea to set Chunk Size to max, so that your ISO isn't split into parts. GameCube discs can store a maximum of 1.36 GiB, so the entire ISO can fit on a FAT32 drive. Simply follow the instructions on-screen and you'll be able to put the game straight from the SD card or USB drive into Dolphin.

Wii Discs

In order to rip a Wii disc, a storage device with more than 4.7 GiB of free space is recommended for single layer, 8.54 GiB for dual layer. However, by dividing the disc into chunks, an SD card with even a single gibibyte of free space is sufficient.
